Changes to Degrees and Certificates

Changes to existing degree programs and stand-alone certificates require approval through the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE) via their Routine Staff Action process. (See the post-campus approval information for additional detail.)

Note that for online programs (including hybrid), IU Online must be notified through their Initial Request Form (IRF) prior to proposal submission to the ALC.

Additional degree in same discipline
Existing degree/cert at a new location
Elimination, suspension or reinstatement of any degrees or stand-alone certificates
Name changes
CIP Code changes
(enter in APPEAR as transcript notation)
Credit hour changes
(enter in APPEAR as transcript notation)
Distance education changes
(enter in APPEAR as transcript notation)
Mergers or consolidated programs
(enter in APPEAR as dual degree)

Curriculum and Transcript Changes

Curriculum changes to existing degree programs are approved through IU-internal processes.New majors and area certificates require university level approval, while others are received as notifications to the ALC, having been approved by the campus.

Note that for online programs (including hybrid), IU Online should be notified through their Initial Request Form (IRF) prior to proposal submission to the ALC.

New majors (including grad concentrations and licensure programs)
New area certificates
Name change or elimination of majors or area Certificates
New minors (including tracks, concentrations, or specializations)
New dual/accelerated degrees (both existing)
Name change or elimination of minors or dual/accelerated degrees
Program transfers to a new school/college
Transcript notations
New assessed alternative (micro-) credentials
New articulation agreements
